Meet Katherine

When Katherine was a baby, her parents noticed that she had difficulty hearing. They would stand behind her and clap, but she would show no reaction. Doctors at SickKids confirmed their fear, Katherine had virtually no hearing. She received a cochlear implant that was surgically inserted into her ear. Today, thanks to SickKids, Katherine is able to hear and communicate with her family and friends.

Meet Maurice

Stephen, Maurice’s Dad, shaved his sons head and then his own; he didn’t want Maurice to get scared when his hair started falling out. Going through two brain surgeries, radiation, a stem cell transplant and chemotherapy, Maurice braved everything to battle the cancerous tumour growing in his brain. Now, thanks to SickKids, both Stephen and Maurice can begin to let their hair grow back.

Meet Kaleigh

Kaleigh calls SickKids her home – it’s really all she knows. She should be living in Nova Scotia, but two years ago Kaleigh and her parents moved to Toronto so she could receive life-saving care. She has endured a 16-hour liver transplant and may need an intestinal transplant. As a world leader in the treatment of her condition, SickKids has given Kaleigh a real chance at life.
